LifeandLeadership.com Summary
This is Perkins’ call for churches to change their perspectives regarding development of spiritually and economically disadvantaged people. He emphasizes a theology of reconciliation, the marks of an authentic socially compassionate church, demonstrating authenticity, indigenous leadership development, evangelism, wholesome care, community enriching services, economic development and pursuing justice. He also helps readers discern their call to social justice ministries, and count the cost and engage the challenges of becoming urban servants.
From the Publisher
The urban poor are oppressed, observes Perkins, but not always in the ways normally thought. They oppress themselves by clinging to their role as “victims.” From the wisdom gained in his many years of working with both black and white church leaders, Perkins helps readers rethink their assumptions about what inner-city ministry should be and relates what the Bible says it is.
