LifeandLeadership.com Summary
This is a one of only a handful of resources available for building stewardship among teens. It is a substantive, well-researched, and practical guide to nurturing a spirit of generosity and service. Since most efforts and stewardship development ignore children and youth, this is an important book to involve the whole congregation. It is not exclusively Christian, but also Jewish, in its applications. It is in the same genre as Carol Wehrheim’s Giving Together: A Stewardship Guide for Families. Growing Up Generous is more narrowly focused on teens, as to where Giving Together is a guide for whole families.
From the Publisher
The authors create a mosaic of what is happening – and what could happen – in American Jewish and Christian congregations to cultivate in young people a deep and lasting commitment to giving and serving. Based on a two-year project by Search Institute, a nonprofit research and education organization that specializes in the healthy development of children and adolescents, the book recognizes and highlights the roles of various congregational leaders (not only youth leaders) in shaping the attitudes of young people.
