Roger Phelps, More Light, Less Heat: How Dialogue Can Transform Christian Conflicts into Growth. Jossey-Bass, 1999.

LifeandLeadership.com Summary
The title conveys the idea quite well, that instead of the “heat” of inflamed arguments, the church should pursue intentional ways of bringing people together for reasonable dialogue. I know of few church leaders who would disagree, but many are afraid to bring people together or conduct open meetings during conflicts for fear that they will turn into divisive shouting matches. Is there a way to conduct discussions where people actually learn from each other, find common ground, and work toward mutually acceptable solutions? Yes, and Phelps lays out excellent strategy to lead people from “debate” to “dialogue.” Excellent.
From the Publisher
This breakthrough guide for Christians of all political persuasions introduces the powerful principles of “dialogue,” a simple and effective method for discussing fundamental disagreements in constructive ways.
