LifeandLeadership.com Summary

Malphurs includes all of the standard information in most guides to congregational change. He emphasizes some concepts not covered as extensively in other volumes on the subject. Chapters 3-4 help church leaders assess their own capacity as change agents using profiles such as DISC and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Chapters 5-6 summarize Everett Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation on the types of people who resist and embrace change. Chapter 7 offers good insight on the conditions that make a church more receptive to change. The book is good overall on change perspectives.

From the Publisher

In ‘Pouring New Wine Into Old Wineskins’, Aubrey Malphus classifies church members into four groups: early adopters, middle adopters, late adopters, and never adopters. Church members may resist change and have a difficult time responding to new ideas. Understanding people and biblical principles for renewal can pave the way to implementing a five-stage revitalization process. Worksheets to help in the process are included.
