Kennon H. Callahan, Effective Church Finances: Fund-Raising and Budgeting for Church Leaders. Jossey-Bass.

LifeandLeadership.com Summary

Kennon Callahan’s resources on church leadership are among the most widely used inter-denominationally. This volume is part of his Twelve Keys library, and one may wish to be familiar with at least the first volume, Twelve Keys to an Effective Church, to understand his approach. He reviews the Twelve Keys in the opening chapter of Effective Church Finances. For a complete overview of the Twelve Keys approach, see the Amazon Kennon Callahan page, or this site’s Callahan summary.

Effective Church Finances works well alongside Callahan’s companion volume, Giving and Stewardship in an Effective Church. Callahan follows his standard foundation for churches to prayerfully and biblically discern their mission, and then facilitate giving and financial management to meet their missional goals. He calls it mission-based budgeting. There are few resources that are as helpful or inspirational in fitting budget with mission. This mission orientation is the common vein in all of Callahan’s works.
