LifeandLeadership.com Summary

London works with Focus on the Family’s ministry to pastors and Neil Wiseman is a veteran pastor and Bible college professor. This is a completely rewritten update from a previous edition in 1993, with new findings from additional interviews and fresh insights on contemporary issues such as moral failure, pornography, and the high turnover rate for ministers.

Typical of books in this field, it begins with an overview of the unique struggles of ministers and then provides helpful coping strategies. Some unique contributions of this work include the chapters on role ambiguity/clarity (ch. 3) and the special stresses on ministry marriages, ministry wives and children (chs. 4-6). The book is formatted into conversations with leading author-practitioners in areas addressed. These include James Dobson on the crisis of ministry failures, Gordon and Gail McDonald on ministry marriages, Pam Farrell and others on ministry wives, Archibald Hart on stress and burnout, Bob and Sandy Sewell on wounded healers, Richard Swenson on creating margins and keeping priorities, Ted Roberts on sexual addiction, and Jerry Bridges on personal holiness. Readers will gain great perspective, encouragement and hope from this volume.
