LifeandLeaderhsip.com Summary
Right Here, Right Now is one of several volumes in the Shapevine Missional Series on missional spirituality and discipleship. Each conveys similar themes as their titles on Missional Communities and Missional Strategies.
The first volume in the series, Untamed, contends that missional faith communities must intentionally capture the “untamed” and radical character of Jesus and the early disciples, challenging disciples to a “mission-shaped” lifestyle in areas such as finances, family, and sexuality. It looks at the distinctive lifestyle of missional disciples as a witness to the transformative power of the gospel. Right Here, Right Now approaches discipleship from slightly different angle, addressing more of how disciples express themselves missionally in their everyday lives, “viewing daily life with a missionary’s eyes.” It discusses the whole missional paradigm, how to encounter other people missionally, and how to “be” the gospel on the pavement of real life. This is placed over against the trappings of western affluence and how disciples can free themselves from these trappings to live missionally, even in the suburbs. From there, it discusses how to experience and mobilize missional communities through house churches and small groups, with specially emphasis on practices of hospitality and missional engagement of their immediate communities.
