LifeandLeadership.com Summary

This is a companion volume to Randy Newman’s award-winning book Questioning Evangelism, giving actual conversations that apply the principles of dialoguing the gospel with others. What Questioning Evangelism discusses in principle, Corner Conversations describes in story. It presents seven complete, realistic conversations, followed by discussion questions and suggestions for further reading.

  • Conversation 1: In the Hospital Parking Lot – Wrestling with Evil and Suffering
  • Conversation 2: At the Library – Researching If the Good Book is Any Better Than the Others
  • Conversation 3: Across from Grace Community Church – A Two-Way Discussion About the One Way to Heaven
  • Conversation 4: Amidst Weights and Treadmills at the Gym – A Debate About the Age-Old Topic – Sex
  • Conversation 5: Near AJ’s, Turnerville’s Upscale Gay Bar – An Unusual Chat Between Two Friends
  • Conversation 6 – Relaxing over Tea at Oat Fields – Skepticism Because of Hypocrisy, Hatred, and Evil in the Church
  • Conversation 7: In the Cemetery – Pertinent Questions About Life After Death

One of the reviewers, Michael Summers, praises the book:

This is a book about love and respect, written by someone who clearly loves seekers and deeply respects their heartfelt questions: some born from intellectual yearnings, but others from painfully bruised and broken hearts. These conversations are riveting in their freshness and immediacy. They sparkle with intense moments that are remarkable for their soul-bearing honesty. I emerged from this book with a much greater love and respect for those who are asking, knocking, and seeking.

From the Publisher

Turnerville—an imaginary place where people take time to think and discuss real issues without condemnation or sarcastic cracks. In an age of hurried communication via e-mail, text messages, instant messaging, and cell phones, a place like Turnerville sounds really appealing—doesn’t it?

Written by Randy Newman, Gold Medallion nominee for Questioning Evangelism, this book allows readers to learn new conversational skills by eavesdropping on important dialogues that grapple with hot-button issues such as:

  • Why does God allow suffering?
  • Why should we believe the Bible?
  • Is Jesus really the only way?
  • Can we know about life after death?

We hear discussions on these kinds of topics, but rarely are they presented in a way that promotes respect without compromise, listening without patronizing, and convictions without arrogance. That’s all about to change. So pull up a seat; we have a lot to discuss.
